Players to Watch (PTW):
Tank Dell (WR) - Honestly, The Shufflers just don't have much going on right now in their lineup, courtesy the disaster left to new owner Mat Lem following the desolution of the former More Than a Thielen (MTT). However, one player The Shufflers will look to keep on roster is Tank Dell of the Houston Texans. He showed quite the talent and connection with CJ Stroud before an injury sidelined him. With the arrival of Stefon Diggs and a few other talented mouths to fee - Dalton Shultz, Nico Collins, Joe Mixon...etc., it will be difficult for Tank Dell to demand his targets; particularly if he's not 100%. At $2 a season, Mat would like to highlight Tank as one of his rooky pieces to build around. Tank is one of the few rookies on his team who isn't essentially heading for suspension, NFL free agency or worse yet, irrelevancy in the coming season. Tank Dell gives SSH something to salvage as the team looks to rebuild and turn around the troubling legacy of this Hops Division slot.
Ray Davis (RB) - After looking at the likes of Pierce, Williams and FA Dalvin Cook, I went to the Taxi Squad to find a RB with a potential future for SSH. Running back, while many may want to reduce its significance, still is one of the positions in fantasy we look to shore up for championship glory. Ray Davis, a rookie out of Buffalo, NY, could be just the pick Mat was wanting from this year's rookie draft. Davis, who is already listed as Cook's backup on the depth chart, has a good deal of speed and low center of gravity (5'8"). This could help him impact the play calling in Buffalo, especially if Cook gets injured. Davis has some solid potential on an offense that can definitely rack up some points and even if Cook is healthy, Davis could get enough play time to warrant consideration for a SSH contract - if not this year, next season as an RS2 on Taxi. If Davis fails to make an impact and if he falls further down the depth chart, Mat will have a greater sense of urgency to draft or trade for some running back talent in 2025.

Ja'Lynn Polk becomes New England's top wideout in 2024! Beating out the mostly subpar competition at Foxboro, Polk is just what fans like Mooch were waiting for. He can catch just about any catch Maye throws his way, and is a huge bright spot for Mat Lemn's Shufflers given his woes at receiver. Mat, recognizing how little signing Polk helps him this season, entertains some solid trade offers from UGG; ultimately, keeping Polk on Taxi until 2025.

The upstart SuperBowl Shufflers are in a world of hurt to start their maiden season in DFFL. Without a single contract classified as "Elite," they quickly fall into an "F" grade. It's difficult to talk about "depth" when many of the players filling in as starters wouldn't even qualify as decent depth. As a result, the "F" just gets more and more daunting.
Helping SSH out is the highest amount of CAP in DFFL available for use in free agency. SSH will be able to compete for what little talent exists and perhaps be able to make some trades for more expensive but talented players. The greatest benefit to The Shufflers is the 4x 1st Round Picks! Mat is a new owner without a track record to gauge; however, giving him the benefit of the doubt here, I will maximize his grade points for using the 1sts and other draft picks to obtain talent when and how he decides.
The Shufflers have a difficult journey ahead of them in DFFL to start off their first season. With talent stacked on two teams in their division, it will be quixotic to believe they can compete for division champion this season no matter what they do. We will all be watching this team build its character and fight the good fight over the next several weeks and months. I'll refrain from saying its "impossible" for SSH to make an impact this season. We all know too well how easy it is for teams at the top to fall flat and teams at the bottom to find a four leaf clover. However, SSH will need a whole lot of 4-leafers in 2023 to compete.
