!!CONGRATULATIONS TMW ON GETTING HIGH SCORE FOR WEEK ONE!!
WINNER’S CIRCLE -
Here we are at the start of a beautiful brand new spanking football season! Ain’t it lovely!? And speaking of “spanking,” the following DFFellers started the season on the best foot, taking care of business and getting to the mighty 1 and 0. Congratulation, but don’t get too cocky…this could be your last week to bask in the sunlight.

DFFL Week 1 Awards
Tyson Award. Nite, Nite! Thleep Tight!
- RAF (1) decimated MTT by 64 points in a 119.86 to 55.82 victory. MTT was afflicted by multiple starters either not scoring any points, or getting a fraction of projected scoring; including his QB Tannehil!. MTT left a lot of points on the bench, including his Top 5 Defense (Green Bay - 18pts), but no optimal lineup would have overcome the lead by RAF. The second largest blowout came against TIU, as NUT stomped Toe by almost 48 points.
2023: RAF (1)
Historical: JWW 139.88
Cliffhanger Award. By the skin of your teeth and newly discovered hair loss!
- UGG (1) squeaked by in Week One with only a 16pt victory over the Defending Champion JWW. The score, 114.08 to 97.94 was one of the lower production matches in the DFFL this week. A win is a win, and UGG starts his march for Barley Division Leader with a game in the victory column.
2023: UGG (1)
Historical: “The Tie”’19 (CAB vs RAF); “Halloween Howler.84”’22 (TMW vs NUT)
Maguire Award. Show me the Money!
- TMW (1) gets the $30 Bank for his impressive point total in a 192.54 to 157 win over DMM. Only 8 points from breaking 200, TMW showed up in Week One! Two of his starters got over 40 points each (Tua T. and Tyreek Hill), and his Top 5 Defense (49ers) rolled over the Pittsburgh Steelers in their own stadium. TMW could have busted 200pts had he started his Top 5 Kicker, Folk (bench), who got 18 points. This is a week TMW will want to duplicate, over and over in the coming months. If he can consistently get the production he got this week, he’ll be a front runner for Season Top Scorer and a favorite to bring home a DFFL Player’s Cup.

Meme Award. **ALERT, NEW DFFL ALL TIME LOW SET ALERT****
When your best isn’t good enough, but makes for great jokes!
- MTT (1) brings home a MEME in the worst way possible. He had an absolute miserable week, scoring a DFFL record-breaking, historically dismal, diminutive 55.82 points in a drubbing by RAF! The cowpatty dropped by MTT is DFFL’s new lowest score in its 6 year history! They set the new low, breaking their own low score record of 66.04, back when MTT was known as OIE. Is this a curse? Can MTT prevent this atrocity from happening again to its franchise? I certainly hope so! It’s a new season, and while this is one of the worst ways to start it is still only Week 1. MTT can only go up from here….right?
2023: MTT (1)
Historical: MTT 55.82 (Wk1/2023), OIE (MTT) 66.04.
Shamrock Award. I found me 4-leaf clover, and though small, I be a winner!
- UGG (1) gets a lucky SHAMROCK in Week 1, scoring only 114.04 points and still coming a way with a ‘W'! Hey!, this is a tough league, filled with savvy and conniving owners, and a victory is a victory - one game closer to Division Lead and playoffs.
2023: UGG (1)
Historical: CAB 102.7
“Red Shirt” Award. Just a decorated Star Fleet security officer taking one for CAPT Kirk.
- DMM (1) scored some points in Week 1; the second highest points to be specific, 157! Out of 12 teams, DMM scored the second most and would have destroyed every, other, owner/team, in DFFL! However, the one team who scored better, played DMM this week. Such a tragedy for the upstart franchise attempting to erase the losing ways of 2022. However, when you get selected by CAPT Kirk (TMW) to join him in a search of WekeWan, on the outer edge of DFFL Galaxy, its just not going to end well; especially when the CAPT tells you to don the crisp, new red shirt on your mission. What Hurts for DMM (pun intended) is not getting enough from your QB, or from your franchise player (D. Adams), or one of your expensive new trades (Mike Williams). And even when you sense strength from your starting lineup RB cuff (Tyler Allgeier), who balled out in Wk 1, its simply not enough to prevent death on WekeWan; nor would any optimal DMM lineup scenario, to be clear. RIP.

Mojo Award. “Yeah, Baby!” Best pickup or start/sit decisions.
- TMW (1) gets the Week 1 MOJO Award for recognizing what Tua Tagovailoa could do for The Watts Franchise in the offseason! TMW somehow trades away the oft injured, money sucking Kyler Murray, and savvily brought in the oft concussed QB from Miami. Sensing the huge production potential, TMW started Tua, even though the QB was going to be playing on the other side of the country at LA Chargers. Tua didn’t disappoint with his NFL Wk1 high 44.14 point game against the Chargers! Kudos to TMW for quietly building a juggernaut in the Barley Division in the offseason, and BZ for starting the best QB in fantasy in Week 1!

Noonan Award. “Best Ball Award”...na-na-na-na-naaaa!.
- JWW (1) receives the DFFL 2023 Week 1 NOONAN Award for starting McKinnon (2.5) over Hubbard (13.9) and Tucker (5) over Dicker “The Kicker” (12), and as a result coming up 18 points short in what would have been a 2pt victory against UGG. Now, one might say, “Why would I ever bench Tucker??” This is a valid point. Most if not all of us would have started Tucker over Dicker; however, this is a woulda, coulda, shoulda discussion. In these types of discussions, its about how one could have been savvy enough to recognize the talent on one’s bench. JWW “blindly” chose a historically great Kicker over the confident young upstart in a game where that youngster was gonna be kicking..a lot (Dolphins at Chargers). So, now that that’s cleared up…why Hubbard? Well, perhaps because one shouldn’t start cuffs on Thursday Night Football. One should also take interest in a backfield with an aging RB as it’s “lead” back - Miles Sanders. I dunno…maybe more thought should have been given to the matchups. There’s always Wk 2!!
2023: JWW (1)
Deck Chairs Award. First Class or Steerage? All equally suck on Titanic!
- Welcome to the 2023 DFFL Deck Chairs Series!! It’s been a long time coming. As you know, we retired this “award” early in 2022, as trading was turned off by the Commish prior to the playoff race. We’re back!
This week we have two owners who get shared distinction for this unenviable award: DMM and JWW take home this award to share for their trade involving Saquon Barkley (11.8), DJ Chark (IR), D Adams (13.6), Mike Williams (7.5) and Jerry Judy (IR). Combined points on these gomers = 32.9 points! Now, had these deck chairs been traded straight up, we’d still be in talking about these goobs in this section. It’s only exacerbated that potentially 2 of next years coveted 1st Round Rookies were inadvertently included in this trade. Ultimately, both DMM and JWW sailed over the horizon on their maiden voyages to DFFL Week 1 Victory, oblivious to their deflated acquisitions, which were of no help when each collided and sank in the murky dark waters of Loser Sea… glub, glub, glub ..!
2023: JWW (1), DMM (1)
Week 1 is officially in the rear-view mirror. Scoring was low, but this is to be expected as the rising stars showcase their fantasy talents and the old stars fade into fantasy irrelevancy. We are all on this treacherous wave, attempting to figure out the best placement to ride it to weekly victory. I suspect those who found the sweet spot this week, won’t be so lucky next week, and maybe vice versa.
It’s good to be back! Onward to WEEK TWO!!
