!!CONGRATULATIONS RAF ON GETTING HIGH SCORE FOR WEEK SEVEN!!

MANTLE OF MAGNIFICENCE

DFFL entered Week 7 with two teams on opposite ends of each other in standings. The League now exits the week, and aint nothing changed on that front. NUT is undefeated at 7-0 and appears ready to make DFFL winning history. We'll see if he can sustain the success. KED and MTT are also on Win Streaks (4 and 3, respectively). RAF and PTS are happy to be back on the Mantle for all to see. Will these teams sustain the production performances, and remain on the Mantle for Week 8? We'll soon see.... Congrats to the winners!:

(RAF(3-4) ⭐), (NUT(7-0)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🤺), (MTT(3-4)), (DMM (3-4) ⭐🏈🏈 ), (KED(4-3) ⭐🏈 ), and (PTS (5-2)⭐⭐🤺) in order of points scored.

CELLAR OF SHAME

On the other side of magnificence, far below the joys of success, hides the Cellar of Shame. Within it is the franchise who can't seem to get a win - JWW is now winless heading into Week 8 at 0-7. The Winless Wonder has all but built a Sauna and HotTub for his Suite of Sadness, as he knows only what lies beneath. DNF and UGG are looking to help JWW finance these "accolades," as it appears they may be using the Cellar facilities longer than initially thought. Of course, CAB, TMW, and TIU are standing near the ladder, in hopes they can somehow escape this sad fantasy locale....

(JWW (0-7) ⭐), (DNF(2-5) ⭐🤺), (CAB(5-2)), (TMW (4-3)⭐⭐⭐🏈🤺), (TIU(4-3) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🤺) and (UGG(2-5)) in order of losing points scored.

DFFL WEEK 7 AWARDS

Tyson Award. Nite, Nite! Thleep Tight!

- RAF (2) crushed out The Life in Week 7 by a DFFL 2023 Season Best 112 points! This blowout came within 30 points of beating JWW's record. Quite remarkable given projected points going into Week 7, which had UGG beating RAF by over 30 points. The final score: 185.64 to 73.56. Two of RAF's starters got over 30 points (Kamara and Foreman), and Darren Waller had his best game of the season with 22.3 points. RAF has 4 players all trending up due to injuries and talent - Alvin Kamara, Darren Waller, Romeo Doubs, and Joshua Palmer. Honorable mention goes to NUT, who beat CAB by over 58 points this week.

2023: PTS (2), MTT (1), TMW (2), RAF (2)

Historical: JWW 139.88

Maguire Award. Show me the Money!

- RAF (1) wins his FIRST Maguire of the year in Week 7, taking home the $30 pot and bragging rights in what was expected to be a loss based on Sleeper Projections. RAF's score of 185.64 was 4th best of the 2023 DFFL season, thus far. As highlighted above in the Tyson writeup, RAF had a number of players who played their socks off and beat projected point production - bigly. While some of these scores will definitely be anomalous, others like Kamara's, Palmer's and Doub's should be consistent for the next few weeks. We'll see....

2023: TMW (2), PTS (1), TIU (2), NUT (1), RAF (1)

Historical: DNF 246.5

Cliffhanger Award. By the skin of your teeth and newly discovered hair loss!

- DMM (1) gets this week's Cliffhanger Award with a close score of 140.16 to DNF's 124.4 - a difference of only 15.76 points! This one wasn't really that close heading into MNF. But DNF's TJ Hockenson scored a season second best 20 points to make DMM anxious in the final minutes of this match. While this game ended up close, DMM could still have sat starter KJ Osborn's 8 point performance on his bench and still eek'd out a 7-8 point win. Honorable mention goes to a nervous PTS for his close 19.9 point victory over TIU.

2023: UGG (1), DNF (1), NUT (3), KED (1), DMM (1)

Historical: “The Tie”’19 (CAB vs RAF); “Halloween Howler.84”’22 (TMW vs NUT)

Meme Award. When your best isn’t good enough, but makes for great jokes!

- UGG (3) comes up with the fewest points in Week 7, earning a Meme Award for a measly, disappointing, and truly pathetic 73.56 point performance. While UGG had a Byemuhgeddon of a week - Chase, Burrow and others unavailable - for his match with RAF, it probably wouldn't have changed the "L". However, he could have possibly avoided a 3rd Meme of the year. Let's dissect the issues as they are significant! Austin Ekeler (last season's league winner) didn't get past single digits. Amari Cooper, Tyler Lockett and Tutu Atwell all got significantly less than projections and remained in single digits! Aaron Jones remains hurt and is unable to be the solid performer we all know him to be. At 2-5, UGG may need to consider trimming down to the young, cheap contracts and gain some draft capital for the next couple years rebuild.

2023: MTT (1), RAF (2), DNF (1), UGG (3)

Historical: MTT 55.82 (Wk1/2023), OIE (MTT) 66.04.

Shamrock Award. I found me 4-leaf clover, and though small, I be a winner!

- PTS (2) managed to get a 5th win in Hops Division style, receiving the lowest score for a winning team in a 125.1 victory over TIU's 105.2. PTS love affair with the Detroit Lions took a bit of a Baltimore dip this week. Goff only got a fraction of his projected 32 points, as he was pulling himself off the turf more than he was passing the ball downfield. The Shamrock Award is particularly fitting not simply by the winning score. PTS didn't set his lineup and earned a goose egg for the OUT DK Metcalf, failing to instead set and play Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs who was postured to crush it this week as the sole healthy running back for the Lions, earned his best score of the season so far with 28.1 points - on PTS' bench. PTS can thank the Bill Belichick for stymying the Buffalo Bills.

2023: UGG (1), CAB (2), KED (2), PTS (2)

Historical: CAB 102.7

TY-SHAM: PTSvsRAF(wk2 138.02).

Red Shirt Award. Starfleet security officer taking one for CAPT Kirk.

- JWW (1) gets a Red Shirt Award for Week 7. Poor JWW, who was postured to get a first DFFL 2023 regular season win going into MNF. His Team-Build-Around QB got his best score of the year - a 52 point performance against the lackluster Chargers Defense. Najee Harris finally got a touchdown and his best fantasy score of the season. George Pickens played great, and JWW's K and DEF performed admirably. However, it wasn't enough in the final analysis, as MTT's rookie sensation, and Stefon Diggs 2.0, Jordan Addison, crushed expectations against one of the NFL's best defenses, the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night. It didn't help that CMC was "Questionable" all week, and then soaked up all the targets and runs for the 9ers, making JWW's Elijah Mitchell useless. Mitchell actually subtracted points from JWW's score for the night. Terrible! For those keeping track, this is the second time the 49ers have crushed the hopes of a DFFL team with a winning score going into MNF. Remember the Kittle performance vs. Cowboys when RAF was supposed to beat KED. SMH and FML - this is the way of the Red Shirt. JWW should feel somewhat consoled by being in this award history, as the Red Shirt typically goes to a competing team.

2023: KED (2), TMW (1), DMM (2), PTS (1), JWW (1)

Historical: NUT 205.10 (Halloween Howler, Oct22)

Mojo Award. “Yeah, Baby!” Best pickup or start/sit decisions.

- MTT (2) wins a second Mojo Award for starting his Rookie Jordan Addison - who could be the dude who earns MTT a Rookie Pick Award (KAK) at the end of the season. Addison came into MNF and banged out almost 31 points against a solid San Francisco Defense. This start decision reversed a negative production trend for MTT going into MNF, changed his loss to a win against a surging JWW, and provided a 3rd straight win for the franchise. MTT made all the right sit/start decisions this week, even with Damario Douglas booming on his bench with almost 16 points. Who could have predicted that? Yes, Greg Joseph (K)-Vikings, scored a solid 12 points from the bench, but starting one player against the second best NFL defense is more than enough to earn a Mojo. An honorable mention goes to RAF for starting D'Ontae Foreman (37.5) and Darrell Henderson (15) who shot way past projected points in Week 7.

2023: JWW (2), TMW (1), DMM (1), RAF (1), MTT (2)

Noonan Award. "Best Ball Award"..nana nana naaa!

- TIU (2) earns a second straight Noonan this week for keeping WR Courtland Sutton (19.6) on his bench, and not adding and starting TE Dalton Kincaid (15.5) to the active roster. **REMEMBER, we can pull these Taxi Gomers to our starting lineups this year for a game when the matchup or bye weeks play a factor.** Oh well. Had TIU started these Week 7 ballers, he woulda beat PTS and gotten a tad bit closer to MALT Division leader, and undefeated NUT.

2023: MTT (1), JWW (2), TMW (1), DMM (1) TIU (2)

Deck Chairs Award. First Class or Steerage? All equally suck on Titanic!

- CAB (1) and TMW (1) each get this weeks dual rusty ole Deck Chairs Award. In Week 7 we had a set of matching, hideous, thumb-tack-glued-to-the-seats, deck chairs in CAB's Connor Heyward (TE) and TMW's Ray Ray McCloud (WR). Each were nabbed hesitantly from the unforgiving Waiver Wire in recent days, and then placed into starting positions for two of DFFL's contending franchises. Might these two franchises have done better negotiating a trade or two from the other 10 DFFL franchises, who were more than willing to shop their wares for their fellow DFFL owners? CAB and TMW felt otherwise. "We don't need no stinking trades!" Well, it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway as both teams ended up barely crossing the Century Mark in points. As a result of making moves resulting in "no help at all" USS ALA BART and USS WATTS go down in the Sea of Fantasy Follies...glub...glub...glub.

2023: JWW (1), DMM (1), UGG (1), RAF (2), DNF (2), CAB (1), TMW (1)

Heading into the second half of the season, NUT is a heavy favorite to get a first round DFFL playoffs BYE. Barley and Hops Division leaders TMW and PTS remain favored to get a playoff birth and don't count CAB and TIU out at this stage of the season. It may be time to plan for next year and join JWW for DNF, UGG, RAF, and MTT. I do, however, think it's too early to project a Hops Division winner...very competitive.
